Thinking about going to the ends of the earth, but not sure it’s worth getting off the couch? Why not get a taste of another culture over a day, a week or a few months... it’ll blow your mind and change your life. (In a good way.)

It will put you in touch with some of the most marginalised and poorest people on earth and in the process enrich your own life. Wycliffe’s running heaps of trips and courses in 2010. Here’s a taste...

Discipleship Initiative

Without access to additional resources and training many indigenous communities with a Bible in their own language struggle to adequately understand, utilise and apply the basic principles of the Scriptures to everyday situations.

Therefore, the Discipleship Initiative was established by Wycliffe and YWAM with the aim of working together to encourage the national church and individuals in the making of disciples of all nations, using the translated Scriptures in their mother tongue.

This will be accomplished by befriending people, modelling Christ and teaching biblical truths in such a way that people can understand and reason from Scripture, applying it to all areas of their life, as well as helping equip the national church to disciple and teach others in such a way that communities will be transformed.

By using the gifts and abilities that God has already given you (and with some training) you will be part of what God is doing in this area and be able to make an IMPACT for him.

Xplore Your World

Ready to get your hands dirty? Xplore is a life-changing interaction with a marginalised Filippino group. Live with local believers and engage with their own translated scriptures. Work in small teams with local pastors, leaders and respected community heroes and explore firsthand their cultural DNA.

‘I now realize that I can speak to my friends and relatives about the Lord using our own language and culture and I didn’t know that before. This seminar has given me a new courage and confidence that God made us Ifugaos and he has things he wants us to do. We thought we had to do it all in English and in Western ways but now we know we don’t!’

MIRIAN, an Ifugao from the Philippines 2008

‘The places we have been to – the rice terraces, the wake, shopping, mixing with locals, the church service out in the country, hearing about how the seminar helped the local people learn new things about their culture so that they could understand it better. Helping them to see biblical parts that tell us God made it. A greater realisation that they can use their language and culture to reach out to other Ifugao’s.’
